Reactions, replies and unread
Reacting with an emoji, how the guide answers a reaction, replying to a message and jumping to the quoted one, and the New line.
Some of what happens in a conversation is smaller than a message. Here is how reactions, replies and unread marks work in both rooms.
Reacting
Long-press a message on the phone, or hover or long-press on the web, and pick any single emoji from the full picker.
In the shared space you can react to the guide's messages and to other members' messages, never to your own. In your private room you can react to the guide's messages only.
How the guide treats a reaction
The guide sees every reaction as a line in its history. When you react to one of its own messages, it can answer with a reaction back, a short reply, or nothing. A reaction between two members never starts a guide turn.
If you would rather it never replied to a reaction, turn off "The guide responds to reactions" in Profile Settings. It still sees the reaction the next time it speaks.
Replying
Long-press a message and choose Reply. Your message carries a quote of the one it answers. Tap the quote to jump to the original, in either room.
The long-press menu also has Copy, Bookmark (into Saved messages), Share and react.
Typing
In the shared space, the other members see a dots bubble with your name while you type or record a voice note. You never see your own. Nothing of the kind shows in a private room.
Unread
Both rooms show an unread badge, and a "New" line sits above the first message you have not seen yet, so you can pick up where you left off.
Reactions and the record
A reaction is not a confirmation. Confirming, editing or declining an entry in the record is done on the entry's card, with its own buttons. See The record.
Pushes
The other members get "New shared message" and "The guide replied" when you or the guide write in the shared space. A reaction sends no push. All of this honors your Push notifications switch in Profile Settings.
